Open and Participatory Government
Open and transparent government is increasingly seen as a hallmark of contemporary democratic governments around the world. Making the documents and proceedings of government agencies publically available increases trust while inspiring citizens to collaborate with government by reporting abuse and volunteering. Will County is a leader in the transparency movement according to the non-partisan Illinois Policy Institute’s Local Transparency Project which placed Will County among the top five Illinois counties according to its 10-point checklist.

County Board Meetings
The Will County Board is the policy-making body of county government and also sets the budget for all county agencies. The Will County Clerk keeps the official minutes for all board meetings which are made available to the public on the County Clerk webpage.
County Board Committee Meetings
Much of the work of the County Board is done in on the eight permanent committees and the ad hoc bodies that are set up to study specific issues. All board members sit on at least one of the eight committees.
Freedom of Information Act
The Freedom of Information Act is the bedrock of government transparency by enabling disclosure of government documents at the request of citizens.
Open Government Center
The Will County auditor’s website contains the open government center which houses searchable county budgets, employee salary information and financial audits.
Filing a Complaint
The Will County auditor’s website lists all county complaint hotlines as well as state and federal contact information for complaints concerning fraud and other issues.
Geographic Information
The geographic information system (GIS) department captures, stores and analyzes all kinds of geographic data in the interests of providing useful spatial information to county residents and businesses.
Internship Opportunities
The Will County Auditor has had an active internship program since 2010. Students from local universities perform in a variety of auditing capacities.

As Chief Election Authority, the County Clerk provides a variety of electoral services designed to promote voter participation and ensure that elections are conducted properly.
